Message from the Chairperson

 

Dear all,
I am Rufina Wong, the  7th Lutheran Association of Parents and Teachers (LAPT) Chairperson.

Parents play a vital role in children’s growth and learning. The Lutheran Association of Parents and Teachers (LAPT) is a platform enabling parents and the School to develop a close partnership in facilitating students’ effective learning, and moreover to enhance their healthy development.

I would like to express my gratefulness for the contribution and support from each of the former Exco members, fellow members and parents.

In the new school year, I appeal to every parent to join our LAPT membership by devoting a little of your time to participate in our LAPT activities and school matters. We shall work together and create a favourable learning environment so as to better understand and accompany our children’s growth.

Last but not least, I sincerely thank all of you who are willing to pay your utmost effort and support to all of our LA future leaders.

About Lutheran Association of Parents and Teachers (LAPT)

In order to promote a close home-school liaison as well as to foster friendly relationships amongst parents, school administration and teachers, Lutheran Association of Parents and Teachers (LAPT) was founded in November 2012.

Since established, Committee Meetings have organized various activities such as the Parents’ Talk, “Parent Manager” Election, LAPT Fun Fair / STREAM Carnival Booth, Day Tour, Coffee Morning, Egg Hunting, Cooking Classes, Pun Choi Gathering, Sale of Secondhand School Uniform, Sale of Book Fair Concession Tickets etc.

Our objectives:

  • To strengthen the links between home-school and facilitate their communications.
  • To strengthen home-school co-operation and carry forward the collaborative spirit.
  • To promote home-school cooperation and improve educational performance.
  • To promote experience exchange between parents and improve the welfare of the students.

Our types of membership, rights and obligations of Members

  1. Types of Members
a. Parent Members The parents and guardians of students who are currently enrolled in the School are eligible to become Parent Members.  Regardless of the number of students a family has; each family shall be entitled to not more than one membership.
b. Teacher Members The current teachers of the School shall routinely be Teacher Members.
c. Consultant Members The current Supervisors and current Principals of the School shall routinely be Consultants Members.
d. Honorary Members The current Manager and the former Principals of the School shall routinely be Honorary Members. Any persons invited by the Executive Committee can also be Honorary Members.
  1. Rights of Member
a. Parent Members

to present at the general meeting of Members and attend the meeting of the Executive Committee;

to move, concur with, vote for any resolutions of the general meeting of Members;

to elect, be elected and remove Members of the Executive Committee ; and

to participate in any activities organized by the Association and enjoy the benefits offered by the Association.
b. Teacher Members

to present at the general meeting of Members and attend the meeting of the Executive Committee;

to move, concur with, vote for any resolutions of the general meeting of Members;

to elect and remove Members of the Executive Committee ; and

to participate in any activities organized by the Association and enjoy the benefits offered by the Association.
c. Consultant Members

to present at the general meeting of Members and attend the meeting of the Executive Committee;

to move, concur with, vote for any resolutions of the general meeting of Members;

have no right to elect or remove Members of the Executive Committee; and

to participate in any activities organized by the Association and enjoy the benefits offered by the Association.
d. Honorary Members

to attend the general meeting of Members and the meeting of the Executive Committee;

have no right to to move, concur with, vote for any resolutions at the general meeting of Members or the meeting of the Executive Committee;

have no right to elect, be elected or remove Members of the Executive Committee ; and

to participate in any activities organized by the Association and enjoy the benefits offered by the Association.
  1. Obligations of members

To comply with the Constitution, to attend the general meeting of Members, to obey the resolutions of general meeting and to assist in the implementation of objectives of the Association.

Membership and member fees

  1. The annual member fee of Parents Member is HK$100. Parents Member shall pay the annual member fee within 10 working days (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays) after his being admitted as a Parent Member. Member fee is counted by reference to the academic year.
  2. Other classes of membership are not required to pay member fee.
  3. Members who wish to quit shall notify the Association in writing. All membership fee once paid shall neither be refunded.

    School uniform is compulsory for all students. They are expected to abide by the 3R’s principles by respecting the school’s policies and taking up the responsibilities to exercise the relevant choice of dressing up themselves before coming to school.

    School Catering

    Catering Service in LA

    Sodexo (Hong Kong) Limited is our lunch service provider starting this school year 2026/2027. They offer catering service and health education for students while promoting environmental protection. On-site chefs will be cooking on the campus every school day so that meals can be freshly delivered to students. 

    Bad Weather Arrangement

    This follows the guidelines and expectations of the EDB Circular No. 5/2022 (updated 4/2026) entitled, “Tropical Cyclones and Heavy Persistent Rain Arrangements for Kindergartens and Day Schools.” 

    Parents should pay attention to the announcements made via the radio, television, Hong Kong Observatory webpage on “Weather Information for Schools” (https://www.hko.gov.hk/en/school/school.htm),  mobile application “ iAM Smart” or the EDB website. In the event of red rain, black rain, or Typhoon 8 or above, the school will make announcements on the school website and Facebook.

    Tropical Cyclones

    If school is in session, and the situation is likely to deteriorate, EDB will make a public announcement advising the suspension of classes. In this instance, we will make arrangements for students to return home as quickly and as safely as possible.  

    Under safe situation, students will be dismissed as follows:

    • Walkers (Year 4 to 12): teachers will dismiss the walkers according to the consent written on the Student Information Form. If parents wish to make alternate pick-up arrangements, please contact the School at 820 820 92 in advance.
    • Other non-walker students: They will stay at school and be picked up by parents/ guardians/ designated adults from the School.
    		 School will inform parents via e-Class announcement and ask them to refer to this guidance for pick-up arrangements.
    Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal Pre-No.8/ No. 8 or above Before School Hours
    • Classes are suspended. All students do not need to attend school.
    • Students should stay home if they are still at home. Students who have already set out for school should decide whether to continue their journey to school taking into consideration the rain, road, slope or traffic conditions. Students who have already arrived at school should remain in school until it is safe for them to return home. Our school will keep the campus open and implement contingency measures to look after students who have arrived at school until it is safe for them to return home.
    • Suspension of Classes
    • The school campus will be open and designated staff members will look after the students who have arrived at school until proper arrangements are made for these students to return home at an appropriate time under safe conditions. 
    During School Hours
    • Students should continue the lessons.
    • Parents do not need to pick up their children from school immediately.
    • School operates as usual unless a special announcement has been made by the EDB.

    During Dismissal time
    • Students should remain in school until the signal is lowered to Typhoon No. 3 or lower.
    • Students can only be released if picked up by the parent/ guardian/ designated adult.
    • If the signal is in place during dismissal time, students will not be released from school independently nor by school bus. 
    • Students will be kept safely at the school campus until the parents/guardian/ designated adult come and pick them up.

    Pick up from school

    • During adverse weather, we do not advise students travelling home. If parents wish to pick up their child, please refer to the guidance here.

    School buses

    • School buses will not operate until the signal is lowered to Typhoon No. 3 or lower.
    • Students will be kept safely at the school campus until the parents/guardian/ designated adult come and pick them up.

    Heavy Persistent Rain

    • When the relevant signals are lowered, school bus service will be resumed gradually and the respective school bus nanny will update parents accordingly. If not, the school will advise parents to pick up students from school.

    Arrangements of school events during school suspension, including internal and external activities, school lunch supplies and school bus services: 

    1. a) When classes are suspended for the whole day, no lunch is provided at school. The lunch supplier will make refund arrangements for all pre-paid lunches.
    2. b) School bus services will not operate if T8 or above, nor Red/ Black rainstorm warning. 
    3. c) Extra-Curricular Activities: If there is any potential for Tropical Cyclone No. 8 or Red/Black rain,. In the interest of your children’s safety, and in accordance with the guidelines of the EDB and Hong Kong Observatory, lessons will be cancelled in the event of adverse weather conditions and students are supervised until parents can pick them up safely. No refunds will be given unless otherwise specified. Where possible, participants will be advised of rescheduled “make up” classes.
    4. d) Students on school activities out of school when an adverse weather warning comes into place, must, if safe to do so, return to school.

    Student Withdrawal & Procedure

    Parents who wish to withdraw their child/children from Lutheran Academy are required to submit the “Notification of Withdrawal” at least 30 calendar days in advance to officially inform the school of the withdrawal.

    Complaint Principles & Procedures

    Lutheran Academy strives to create an effective and efficient learning and working environment for our members. The Complaint Handling policy stipulates the procedures that the School will take when someone wants to lodge a complaint against a particular member of the School or an aspect of school operation. These procedures are suitable for use for any complaints received from students, parents, or any third party outside of the school community for areas of school operation not covered by other school policies, procedures or codes of conduct.
